What sad destruction!
Here are two excellent resources describing best practices for restoring silt-covered land.
First is Hawke's Bay's own LandWISE, with its very practical information here, plus additional links.
Second source is the Science Media Centre. Their information is more academic and is being collected from researchers around NZ.
