Feeding the Future Through Regenerative Farming

Author Kelsey Timmerman dives into his new book, Regenerating Earth: Farmers Working with Nature to Feed Our Future, exploring how nature-based farming practices are reshaping the way we grow food.

Raised in rural Indiana amid endless fields of corn and soybeans, Timmerman has witnessed firsthand the toll of industrial agriculture; polluted waterways, unhealthy air, and weakening bonds between people and land. Determined to find a more hopeful path, and guided by his belief that humans can help heal the planet, he embarked on a six-year journey across five continents.

From Hawaiian kalo patches to the Amazon rainforest and the Maasai cattle lands, Timmerman met farmers, Indigenous leaders, and activists who are working with nature instead of against it. The result is a powerful, personal, and unexpectedly joyful book that shows regenerative farming isn’t just an idea; it’s a movement already underway.

Through stories rich with grit, humour, and heart, Timmerman reveals what it truly means to live regeneratively: in our farming, in our communities, and in our relationship with the Earth. He reminds us that repairing our food systems is possible and that every one of us can play a role.

In this Q&A with The Packer, Timmerman discusses the inspiration behind his book, why regenerative agriculture is so urgent today, and what gives him hope for the future of food.
