PepsiCo and Cargill Partner to Advance Regenerative Agriculture
Added 5 hrs ago

PepsiCo and Cargill have announced a new collaboration to expand regenerative agriculture practices across 240,000 acres of farmland by 2030. The initiative will focus on the companies’ shared corn supply chain in Iowa, where Cargill works directly with local farmers to source ingredients for PepsiCo products.
Agriculture is central to PepsiCo’s global business, which relies on 35 different crops sourced from more than 60 countries. As a key supplier, Cargill plays an important role in building resilience across this supply chain. Together, the two companies aim to support farming communities in adopting regenerative practices, strengthen agricultural sustainability, and create long-term benefits for farmers and the environment.
Iowa, the leading corn producer in the United States, supplies more than 15% of the nation’s crop. Through Practical Farmers of Iowa (PFI) — a nonprofit deeply rooted in the Midwest farming community — the initiative will provide farmers with region-specific advice, technical resources, and tailored recommendations to support more sustainable crop production.
“By working with farmers to understand what’s best for their farms and partnering across the supply chain, we can accelerate the adoption of regenerative agriculture practices that lead to healthier soil, lower emissions, and stronger farm yields and livelihoods,” said Jim Andrew, PepsiCo’s Chief Sustainability Officer.
The initiative also contributes to the long-term sustainability goals of both companies. PepsiCo has committed to advancing regenerative, restorative, or protective practices across 10 million acres globally by 2030, while Cargill has pledged to promote regenerative agriculture on 10 million acres of North American farmland within the same timeframe.
“This partnership is about delivering practical, measurable results — starting on the farm, where the food system begins,” said Pilar Cruz, Chief Sustainability Officer at Cargill. “By coming together across the value chain, we can help create the conditions for regenerative agriculture to take root and thrive.”
Benefits for Farmers
Participating farmers will receive:
-
Agronomic guidance tailored to their operations
-
Incentive payments to offset risks during the transition
-
Access to technical resources and sustainability-focused supply chains
PFI will lead implementation, managing farmer enrollment and ensuring science-based outcomes through measurement, reporting, and verification. Practices encouraged under the program are designed to improve soil health, build climate resilience, and enhance long-term farm productivity.
This expanded partnership builds on years of collaboration between PepsiCo, Cargill, and PFI, and represents a major step toward transforming agriculture to support farmers, strengthen communities, and safeguard the global food system.
