Wisewool

Here’s a company up in Gisborne we thought folks in Hawke’s Bay might find interesting – Wisewool.

The family behind Wisewool boasts five generations of wool handling … over 130 years. Wisewool itself was formed in 2021. Its core product is engineered by intertwining wool fibres into tiny spring-like buds that enhance its inherent bounce and resilience while retaining wool’s incomparable natural attributes. 100% natural, organic and chemical-free.

They’ve been given a $790,000 grant over three years by MPI’s Sustainable Food and Fibre Futures Fund aimed at increasing the market potential for woollen knops – the small, light fluffy balls used as a filler ingredient for bedding, pillows, furniture cushions, even insulated clothing.

The goal of course is to develop more high-end uses for wool as a natural substitute for synthetic materials.
